Deciduous Oak woodlands occur in temperate climates in the northern hemisphere. The natural range of the species includes the whole of Europe to the Caucasus, northward to Scandinavia and south to Asia Minor and North Africa. They tolerate a high degree of seasonality from cold, subzero winter with frost and snow to warm mild summers, which are often wet, but may include drought for several weeks at a time.
